This weekend’s box office had some newcomers and some strong returners.

“Barbie” again dominated with a $53 million domestic third weekend. It has surpassed $1 billion globally and doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. The film has been consistent with minimal daily drops in ticket sales during its 17 days in theaters so far.

Another Warner Bros. film shook up the leaderboard this weekend. “Meg 2: The Trench” posted a $30 million domestic gross, surpassing “Oppenheimer” for the No. 2 spot. Despite the large opening weekend, the film has a 28% rating on Rotten Tomatoes

Not falling far to the No. 3 position is “Oppenheimer”. With a $29 million domestic third weekend, “Oppenheimer” has amassed over $550 million worldwide. This is even more impressive considering the R rating and the three hour runtime.

Another newcomer this weekend was “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.” The animated film pulled in $28 million on a budget of $70 million. Initially releasing on Aug. 2, “Turtles” has made $52 million globally during its 5 days in theaters.

Disney took another hit with the second weekend of “Haunted Mansion.” Its $9 million domestic gross brings its worldwide total to $60 million. This film had a massive budget of $158 million, $58 million more than the budgets for “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.”
