On the 102nd day of striking, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) received a counter offer from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The offer was reported by a negotiation update distributed by the WGA Negotiating Committee. However, the actual counter offer was not disclosed.
The WGA Negotiating Committee stated that they “will evaluate their offer and, after deliberation, go back to them with the WGA’s response next week.”
This update comes after almost complete silence between the two parties for most of the summer. On Aug. 1, the AMPTP requested to resume negotiations, as announced by the WGA Negotiating Committee in a negotiation update. A confidential sidebar between the WGA and AMPTP took place on Aug. 4. The discussions of the sidebar itself, proposed to be confidential, were leaked to the press by the studio union, as stated in a negotiation update from the WGA.
The AMPTP offered to negotiate on some of the WGA’s proposals, but not all. The WGA remained in solidarity, stating that their expectation is for “all the fundamental issues over which writers have been striking these past three months would be addressed in this new contract, and that no segment of the membership would be left behind.”
On Aug. 10, the WGA announced that the AMPTP requested to resume negotiations. The counter offer issued on Aug. 11 was the result of that meeting.
