The entertainment industry is now starting to feel repercussions from the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) joint strikes. Most productions have halted during the strikes, but many finished films are moving their release dates in anticipation of the strikes not being resolved.

The biggest mover so far is “Dune: Part Two.” Originally set to release on Nov. 3, “Dune” has moved all the way to March 15, 2024. “Challengers”, another film featuring Zendaya, was set to release Sept. 15, but has also moved to the 2024 spring slate for a release date of April 26, 2024.

Sony was hit hard by the strikes, moving both “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” and “Kraven the Hunter.” The highly-anticipated third film in the animated Spider-Man franchise was set to release on March 29, 2024, less than a year from “Across the Spider-Verse” released this past June. Currently there is no updated release date. There were also concerns with finishing the film before the move of the release date due to the strikes. “Kraven the Hunter” has been moved nearly a whole year from its original release date of Oct. 6 to Aug. 30, 2024.

Some independent features have been delayed as well. “Poor Things”, a Searchlight Pictures production directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, has moved three months from Sept. 8 to Dec. 8. “Problemista”, the A24 production and feature directorial from Julio Torres, was initially set to release on Aug. 4 but has not received a new release date yet.

While many films have moved from the fall slate, there are some that are still garnering excitement. Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon”, the sci-fi original “The Creator” and the latest Marvel film “The Marvels” headline the fall.
