This weekend’s box office rebounded with four new entries to the top five after last weekend’s record low.
“PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie” surprisingly debuted at the No. 1 spot with a $23 million opening weekend. This film follows members of the PAW Patrol as they get superpowers.
A film in stark contrast, “Saw X” debuted in second place with an $18 million opening weekend. The 10th film in the “Saw” horror franchise had a surprising critical reaction, being certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
The most surprising entry to this weekend’s box office is the underperformance of “The Creator.” Gareth Edwards’ sci-fi original did not deliver, pulling in only $14 million in its debut weekend on a budget of $80 million. This underperformance is exacerbated by the comparison to “PAW Patrol” and “Saw X”, both of which beat “The Creator” at the box office while being a children’s film and the 10th film in a franchise respectively.
“The Nun II” fell from the top spot to No. 4 this weekend. The horror film grossed $5 million in its fourth weekend for a worldwide total of $230 million.
“The Blind”, a biopic about “Duck Dynasty” star Phil Robertson, debuted with an impressive $5 million opening weekend. The independent feature was produced by production company Tread Lively.
