According to SFF Addicts Podcast, Wells attended A&M after reading about on-campus science fiction fanclubs in Starlog Magazine. She graduated from A&M with a B.A. in Anthropology.
Wells has expressed an interest in science fiction and genre literature since childhood and served as the 1986 convention chairman of AggieCon, the oldest multigenre convention in the United States. Wells published her first novel in 1993 and began “The Murderbot Diaries” series in 2017 with novella “All Systems Red.” The series spans two full-length novels, six novellas and two short stories. Among the ten entries, Wells boasts two New York Times Bestsellers and the 2021 Hugo Award for Best Series. A television adaptation was announced for full development by Apple TVᐩ on Dec. 14, 2023.

Skarsgård will also executive produce the series, similar to the 2022 film “The Northman,” in which he produced and starred.
Also attached to the project are producers Chris and Paul Weitz, the former of which co-wrote “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” 2015’s “Cinderella” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
Paramount Television Studios will develop the 10-episode series, with no word yet on an official release date.
