Some new and unique releases made up this weekend’s box office. Holding at No. 1 is “Bob Marley: One Love,” grossing $13.5 million domestically in its second weekend, bringing its total worldwide gross to over $120.5 million.
New releases “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Hashira Training” and “Ordinary Angels” took the No. 2 and 3 slots, respectively.
“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Hashira Training” is a combination of two stand-alone episodes from the anime show “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba,” mashing up the final episode from season three with the first episode of season four, which has not yet been released to television. The television mashup grossed an impressive $11.6 million domestically in its release, which is already more than the entire $10.1 million domestic run from its last television mashup “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village,” released last year.
“Ordinary Angels” was released only domestically and grossed $6.5 million in its debut weekend. The film stars Oscar-winner Hilary Swank (“Boys Don’t Cry,” “Million Dollar Baby”) and Alan Ritchson (“Reacher”), and follows a hairdresser as she attempts to save the life of a widowed man’s daughter with the help of the community.
“Madame Web” dropped to No. 4 with a poor $6 million domestic second weekend. “Migration” is still in theaters after months, grossing $3 million domestically in its 10th weekend.
Ethan Coen’s newest film “Drive-Away Dolls” debuted to a disappointing $2.4 million domestically. This is Coen’s first narrative feature film without his brother, Joel, who solo directed 2021’s “The Tragedy of Macbeth.” The brothers have directed hits such as “Fargo,” “The Big Lebowski,” and “No Country for Old Men,” and are planning to reunite on an untitled upcoming horror film.
Note: Box office totals are estimated at the time of writing.
