“Dune: Part Two” hit theaters this weekend and made its presence known. The sequel to 2021’s “Dune” decimated this weekend’s box office, grossing $81.5 million. The closest-grossing film was “Bob Marley: One Love,” earning a comparatively minuscule $7.4 million in its third weekend. “Dune: Part Two” has nearly surpassed the biopic’s entire domestic gross of $82.7 million in its opening weekend.

The release of “Dune: Part Two” nearly doubled the first film’s opening weekend of $41 million. The film has so far grossed $178.5 million worldwide. Critics and audiences alike love “Dune: Part Two,” with a 94% critics score and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, an A on CinemaScore and a 79 Metascore on Metacritic.

“Ordinary Angels,” “Madame Web” and season four, episodes seven and eight of “The Chosen” rounded out the top five.

“Dune: Part Two” will have some competition this month, with franchise films “Kung Fu Panda 4,” “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” releasing throughout March. However, expect “Dune: Part Two” to maintain its box office dominance heading into April.

Note: Box office totals are estimated at the time of writing.
