Glen Powell, the rising star from “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Anyone But You,” will enter the Texas Film Hall of Fame, announced on Wednesday evening by the Austin Film Society (AFS). Powell will be inducted on Wednesday, May 15 at the Paramount Theatre in Austin at the premiere of his latest film, “Hit Man,” in which he stars and co-wrote with director and AFS founder Richard Linklater. A special event, “A Toast to Texas Film: Honoring Glen Powell,” will be held on Thursday, May 16 at Troublemaker Studios celebrating Powell’s achievements and acting as a fundraiser for AFS programs.

“It’s an honor to be part of inducting a fellow Austinite, my friend and collaborator Glen Powell, into the Texas Film Hall of Fame,” Linklater said in the official AFS press release. “He’ll be adding his name to the Texas Film Hall of Fame alongside fellow legendary Texans like Matthew McConaughey, Forest Whitaker, Sissy Spacek and Cyd Charisse, to name a few.” Linklater also expressed his delight in inducting Powell during the “Hit Man” premiere, a film they co-wrote together.

“Hit Man” follows Gary Johnson, a professor with a double life as a hitman who works for the police. When he becomes infatuated with one of his clients, his twisted life twists further.

Powell was born and raised in Austin and has previously worked on Linklater projects “Fast Food Nation,” “Everybody Wants Some!!” and “Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Childhood.” Along with “Hit Man,” premiering in theaters on May 24, Powell will star in “Twisters,” a natural disaster film and sequel to the 1996 original “Twister,” which hits theaters July 19.
