“The Big Bend” is a drama-thriller set to feature in a special screening on May 31 and June 1 in Austin at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. Both nights will include a Q&A with writer/director Brett Wagner and the cast.
It stars Jason Butler Harner and Virginia Kull as the Prices, and David Sullivan and Erica Ash as the Talbotts, a group of married friends who vacation in West Texas, only to be challenged physically and emotionally by the grueling desert conditions. Inspired by a real-life incident, when the child of “The Big Bend” producer Aaron Brown briefly went missing in Big Bend National Park, Wagner developed the story into a narrative feature film.
Wagner premiered “The Big Bend” at the Austin Film Festival in 2021. The film has been featured in several festivals since, according to a recently released trailer. It won Best Narrative Feature at the Kansas City International Film Festival, Best Feature Filmed in Texas at the South Texas International Film Festival, Programmer’s Choice Award at the Naples International Film Festival and the Jury Award for Best Ensemble Cast at the Savannah College of Art and Design Savannah Film Festival, all in 2022.
“The Big Bend” enjoyed a limited theater release on April 26 this year and will next screen at the aforementioned Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar later this month. According to an official press release, more screening locations will be announced in the future, including major cities Dallas and Houston.
